The way Shane Meadows can capture a real sense of atmosphere through art direction and cinematography is incredible. He creates a sympathetic approach to the ordinary lives of British people, the unrehearsed acting ad lib style -stuttering and stumbling over words- and unpredictable plots make it very believable.
Each one of the frames from his films and, more recently, TV series could be a portrait standing alone, not looking out of place in a fashion magazine. The grading reminds me of portraits from Annie Leibovitz and John Rankin.
All of his features carry the similar 'kitchen sink realism' theme throughout, a lot of which has been inspired by his own past. Angry young men seeking revenge turning out to be the heroes. He has a lot of working class awareness and two fingers up to the law attitude shaking the stability of todays world.
