During the Summer I visited The Saatchi Gallery, London. My favourite exhibition was the 'shoebox art', Kids Company and The Bryan Adams Foundation teamed together getting artists to recreate a room from their childhood using a shoebox. Artists including Jeremy Deller, Simon Periton, Rob Ryan and Stella Vine got involved. These were auctioned off to raise money for Kids Company and their work with vulnerable children.
The boxes exhibited, however, were not the artists'. Children from primary schools (aged 4-8) created their own bedrooms with the shoeboxes. The boxes (anonymously) displayed suggested 'dark' goings on in their home, neglect and domestic violence. This had a lot of impact and really brought home the sensitive issues of child abuse, it was quite saddening how these children didn't realise the abnormality of what was going on.
